announced through a statement that by late April it will begin the production of face masks on its Toluca plant in the State of Mexico so as to deliver them to different public and private hospitals in Mexico .

According to the statement, the production of these face masks will be destined for hospitals in Mexico City , the State of Mexico, San Luis Potosí , Guanajuato , and Coahuila , which are the Mexican states where General Motors has plants.
“The decision to transform our assembly line, normally used to assemble vehicles, into a factory for medical equipment follows our understanding of the challenging situation and shows our commitment to halt the spread of COVID-19 i n Mexico,” said Francisco Garza , general director and president of General Motors in Mexico.

According to Garza, the production of surgical masks will be performed for six months, a period in which they plan to make 9 million masks at a pace of 1.5 million per month .
Garza said that although General Motors is not planning to do so, their facilities in Toluca could hold another production line for level 2 surgical masks .
