Freelancers are a growing trend in Mexico

So-called “ freelancers ” or independent workers have become a trend among new professionals in the workplace, since it facilitates the performance of different activities while adapting to the lifestyle of young people in Mexico, stated Workana .

In a statement, the online job exchange company underlined that Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, and Colombia are the countries with the greatest potential to increase the number of independent workers.

The company explained that Brazil currently has the highest index of independent professionals, which account for 50% of their workforce; Argentina, with 13%; Mexico, with 12%, and Colombia, with 7% .

Freelancers in Latin America are mostly hired for jobs involving design, programming, translation, and content generation .

In general terms, according to Workana, the region is one of the most promising emerging markets in innovation and entrepreneurship in the world, because new generations look for employment alternatives that will allow them to carry out their own projects, so they prefer to work independently.

According to a study carried out each year by Workana, in 2016 alone, the freelance market grew by over 180 percent , and one of the factors behind the development of this trend are small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) , since they provide freelancers with the opportunity to collaborate with specific tasks for their businesses as a way to complement their work team.

According to the Workana Independent Work and Entrepreneurship Report 2018 , 94 percent of companies that hire freelancers have between one and five independent workers working with them, and within these companies, 48 percent have hired professionals from other countries for the development of very specific projects.
