Ethiopian Fikadu Kedebe has become the champion of the 35th International Marathon of Mexico City , while the local competitor, Juan Luis Barrios, came in fourth.
With a time of 2h 17.23, Kedebe crossed the finish line before the hundreds of people gathered at the Olympic University Stadium in Mexico City.
“I'm sad because I didn't give Mexico a spot on the podium, but I felt good, and from now on, I need to work on improving my times,” said Juan Luis, who also expects to participate in the Olympic marathon cycle.
In the women's category, Gladys Tejeda was the winner, setting a new record, with a time of 2h 33.16.
The marathon took place today, August 27, at 06:45hrs. The contestants ran a total of 42 kilometers from the starting point at the Zócalo of Mexico City, to the finish line at the Olympic University Stadium.
