Mexican department store chain Elektra announced the launch of an online shopping portal called Elektra USA , which focuses on Mexicans living in the United States who wish to send products to their families in Mexico.
“According to data published by the Bank of Mexico , the volume of family remittances sent by Mexicans living abroad, mainly in the United States, showed a 6.6% growth in 2017 , climbing to a record figure of 28,771 million dollars ,” said Ricardo Salinas Pliego , chairman of the Grupo Salinas conglomerate (owner of Elektra).

, CEO of Elektra department stores, commented that Elektra’s new portal will seek to strengthen its commercial operation to become a multichannel enterprise and be present anywhere on the globe .
Initially, Elektra USA will only offer credit and debit card payments through VISA, Mastercard, and Discover . Later on, it will include other payment methods such as American Express, PayPal, and remittance networks .
“Elektra USA aspires to serve millions of Mexicans living in the USA who send money each month to their families and loved ones in Mexico. We are deeply interested in serving all Mexicans and we intend to continue creating happy moments for our customers,” added Juan Carlos García , head of global e-commerce & omnichannel of Elektra department stores.
