The former leader of the National Union for Education Workers (SNTE) , Elba Esther Gordillo Morales , has rolled out her strategy to manage the organization once again.
Yesterday, teachers marched towards Congress , where they presented, in this context, a document that included a proposal created by the Teachers for Mexico group, to substitute the education reform , which includes returning the teachers career system (carrera magisterial ) to the hierarchy system and, among other things, proposes the automatic hiring of recent graduate “ normalistas ”.
One of the actions they plan to carry out is that 3,000 teachers will file lawsuits against the current SNTE leader, Juan Díaz de la Torre , as well as against other members of the union, for the alleged diversion of money from the teachers' retirement fund.
As it happened with the lawsuits filed in Mexico City, Gordillo's supporters from Sinaloa, Coahuila, Nuevo León , and Tamaulipas are looking to denounce them for the alleged misappropriation of MXN $20,000 million, from the teachers' retirement fund.
“It is expected that (in the case the lawsuits are admitted) those involved are notified about, in early December, tax audits, asset and bank accounts freezing, search and arrest warrants, ” sources close to Elba Esther explained.
“This strategy is the toughest one. The legal strategy began a couple of days before the new administration begins. 3,000 lawsuits are coming,” explained those who were interviewed.
Yesterday, it was announced that Gordillo's supporters filed a lawsuit before the PGR , against the union leader for the alleged diversion of money from the teachers' retirement fund; as well as for his relationship with companies who grant money loans to the teachers, which are deducted from the teachers' salaries with “excessive interest.”
Gordillo's team
hired the Bufete de Buen law firm, specialized in the work area, and Marco del Toro 's firm, who will continue leading the legal strategy.
Also, in regards to the work area, they are looking to restore Elba Esther Gordillo as the SNTE president; in the legal area, they are looking to take protective measures for the teachers.
The other path is a “reunion” with the current SNTE leader, to examine the resources he was granted access to and achieve the reimbursement of the allegedly deviated resources.
Every day, Elba Esther holds between 10 and 15 meetings with teachers, to go over the strategy.
Tomás Vázquez Vigil
, president of Teachers for Mexico , claims that with Juan Díaz de la Torre , teachers quickly lost the rights they fought for during 50 years. He considers that Gordillo never lost her rights as a leader and that she can call for a congress to “bring the union to a new stage.”
As EL UNIVERSAL exclusively revealed, Elba Esther Gordillo is getting ready to return to the SNTE , and she's only expecting the Supreme Administration Cour t's decision, which would make her the legal president, to call for a congress and name a substitute.
