José Ángel Casarrubias Salgado
, best known as “ El Mochomo, ” a member of Guerreros Unidos cartel and who is linked to the disappearance of the 43 students of Ayotzinapa , was immediately arrested at the Altiplano prison’s facilities.
After a federal judge ordered his release due to the lack of ideal evidence to accuse him of organized crime , “El Mochomo” was arrested again because Mexico’s Attorney General’s Office (FGR) has a new charge against him.
Outside the prison, his lawyer Arturo Rodríguez García asserted they will await for the new FGR’s accusation.
Federal sources confirmed that the new arrest warrant is linked to organized crime related to other events and not the Ayotzinapa case .
“El Mochomo” was mentioned in the investigation of the Ayotzinapa case as the one who ordered the murder of the 43 missing students.
Francelia Salgado and Rafael Cassarrubias, parents of “El Mochomo” and Sidronio Casarrubias Salgado , who is also arrested in connection to the Ayotzinapa case, were outside the prison.
“I ask Mr. López Obrador why they don’t mention Murillo Karam , those who orchestrated the thing with the 43 missing students because my sons did not do it,” said Francelia Salgado.
Yesterday, Attorney General Alejandro Gertz Manero confirmed “El Mochomo,” a cartel leader involved in the disappearance of 43 Mexican students in Guerrero, was arrested in Metepec, State of Mexico following an arrest warrant issued on October 21, 2014 over organized crime; however, a federal judge released José Ángel Casarrubias Salgado today, as the result of a technicality.
The judge made the decision earlier today, based on a technicality found in a piece of evidence presented by the now-defunct PGR in 2014 .
Mexican authorities said Guerreros Unidos is the criminal organization behind the kidnapping and disappearance of the 43 students. According to previous investigations, former Iguala Mayor ordered municipal police officers from Iguala and Cocula to hand the students to the local cartel.
Sidronio Casarrubias
, Ángel Casarrubias’ brother, was arrested in 2014 and confessed his involvement in the enforced disappearance of the 43 students.
Corruption
Mexico’s President Andrés Manuel López Obrador
said that “there was money involved” in the release of “El Mochomo.”
During his morning news conference at the National Palace, López Obrador asserted that there was an investigation on the release “and this morning, there was a report of corruption at the court that ordered his release and there is evidence that there was money involved.”
AMLO asserted that the release “is an attack against the institutions and the State” so he announced those involved will be punished .
The President said these acts of corruption used to be hidden and that they must be condemned so that they do not happen again.
José Ángel Covarrubias Salgado is part of the investigation of the Iguala case because Osvaldo Ríos Sánchez, “El Gordo,” and his brother, Miguel Ángel “El Pozol,” testified “El Mochomo” ordered to kill the 43 students who were then buried in a clandestine grave in Pueblo Viejo.
However, federal sources said that the 2014 arrest warrant does not include any accusation for the disappearance of the students; it was for organized crime as part of the Guerreros Unidos cartel .
Before the FGR arrested “El Mochomo” for the second time, President López Obrador urged judges not to use technicalities in the investigation as an “excuse” to release criminals.
The Federal Judiciary Council (CJF) presented an internal complaint against the judge and the staff of the court who ordered to release “El Mochomo” for possible acts of corruption and legal defects.
In a statement, the CJF informed that there will be an investigation against the Second District Court of the State of Mexico , led by María del Socorro Castillo Sánchez.
Through his Twitter account, minister Arturo Zaldívar asserted that his administration supports honest public officers and that no act of corruption will be tolerated. “We will always support the vast majority of public officers who are honest and work for the country. But any suspicion of corruption will be investigated.”
For its part, the FGR revealed people close to “El Mochomo” offered millions of pesos to the staff at the Second District Court of the State of Mexico to release him.
In a statement, the FGR informed the Deputy Prosecutor Specialized in Organized Crime Investigation (SEIDO) has authorized by a judge “interventions that point out bribery for several millions of pesos by different individuals close to the suspect.”
It announced that, according to the new investigation of the Ayotzinapa case , it will request a new arrest warrant against “El Mochomo” for accusations different from the previous one.
The FGR said the court ordered the cartel leader’s release “did not recognize the soundness of the evidence that was presented and that was accepted in 2014 and that was applicable at this moment, halting the revision of 21 proofs provided back then, the reason why the FGR immediately appealed .”
