Did ‘El Marro’ donate money to the church?
Sources said El Marro’ s arrest alarmed the Catholic Church because religious authorities fear the criminal had linked to priests and other church officials in Guanajuato. The church is not only worried because the priests held celebrations in honor of the leader of the Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel, but also because he could have made donations to the Catholic Church. In case authorities find that these rumors are true, Archbishop Rogelio Cabrera will cooperate with authorities to carry out an investigation.
The purge continues
The purge to get rid of all the government officials linked to Genaro García Luna continues 20 months after President Andrés Manuel López Obrador took office. Yesterday, Security Minister Alfonso Durazo announced that 18 government officials linked to García Luna were fired. Insiders said several officials claim they don’t know Genaro García in a bid to keep their jobs; however, the purge will continue. Genaro García Luna was appointed as Mexico’s Security Minister by Felipe Calderón. Years later, U.S. authorities arrested him and accused him of receiving bribes from the Sinaloa Cartel.
Pharmaceutical companies receive good news
Sources said that once it became clear that national pharmaceutical companies will be able to compete against international companies in tenders organized by the United Nations and the Pan American Health Organization, the national industry is reaching out to the international organizations to voice their interest in the process. Sources said Arturo Morales, the head of the Mexican Association of Pharmaceutical Laboratories, and Juan de Villafranca, the organization’s executive director, requested a meeting with the UN in Mexico to announce that the national pharmaceutical sector is ready to participate in the tenders. It seems like the feud between the federal government and the industry has calmed down.
Morena and the embezzlement of MXN 400 million
Morena leader Alfonso Ramírez Cuéllar is happy because he says the MXN 400 million embezzled by Yeidckol Polevnsky’s administration will return to the party soon. Ramírez Cuéllar says the process is going well and although the case ended up in a courthouse in Querétaro, it doesn’t matter because a federal judge is handling the case.
