According to Mexican legends, the Cuexcomate volcano is the love child of the warrior Popocatépetl and the princess Iztaccíhuatl.
However, nature tells us the smallest volcano in the world was formed to provide an escape to a jet of water with high contents of sulfhydric acid after an eruption of the volcano Popocatépetl in 1064. Between these two volcanoes, there is just a distance of 54 kilometers.
The Cuexcomate volcano is located right at the center of the city of Puebla , 15 minutes away from the main square.
It measures just 13 meters high and you can climb a metal staircase to reach the crater and then descend the staircase inside to see the underground water cave, supplied from nearby underground rivers.

This volcano is considered inactive , as the last activity registered was in 1662, when instead of lava it spewed water at high temperature, much like a geyser.
You can visit it any day of the week from 10:00 to 18:00. Entrance fee is MXN$10 (USD$0.50)
