In the face of the sanitary emergency sparked by COVID-19 , President López Obrador signed a decree that orders companies to allow the vulnerable population such as senior citizens , pregnant women , and people with chronic diseases to stay home from work while getting paid.
The decree was made official and will be implemented today.
The document was published in the Official Journal of the Federation and establishes that in order to prevent the spread of coronavirus , the vulnerable sectors in the public and private sector, as well as in society, must not attend work, public places , and crowded places .
The decree emphasizes that people must stay home while getting paid until April 19.

The vulnerable groups mentioned include the elderly , pregnant women , women who are breastfeeding , children under 5, people with disabilities , people with chronic diseases such as high blood pressure , kidney failure , lupus , cancer , diabetes , obesity, liver failure, heart disease, and several other diseases.
This agreement aims to establish preventive measures to “ease and control the health risks” of contracting COVID-19 .
The announcement explains that as long as they don’t operate in closed spaces and are crowded, hospitals , clinics , pharmacies , doctors , financial services, telecommunication services, media outlets, hotels, restaurants, gas stations, markets, grocery stores, transport, and other services, are allowed to operate.
In regards to government departments and offices , the agreements aim to implement measures that guarantee their operation while following measures to prevent the spread of the virus .
