Chinese firm BAIC plans to open a new assembly plant in Mexico by 2020 , said Jimena Sáenz , Director of BAIC Mexico .
The brand has been marketed in Mexico since June 2016 and it already has an assembly line in Veracruz , where the D20 and X25 models are assembled.
"We are not a plant, nor an assembly plant, and we are not an importer. We are a hybrid in which Grupo Picacho is in charge of the commercialization of spare parts units, logistics, etc. While BAIC is in charge of manufacturing," assured Sáenz.
The director of BAIC Mexico said that the location of the new plant and the investment amount will be announced until 2018 .
Recently, Mexican governors of Nuevo León, Quintana Roo, Sonora, Morelos, Hidalgo and Guanajuato traveled to China to discuss possible investments .

, Director of Grupo Picacho , said that BAIC has been operating a sunroof plant in Guanajuato for six years and it has the potential to be the new location of the 2020 plant.
BAIC is also analyzing the possibility of opening a training center for Latin America in Mexico and a research and development center.
From January to August, BAIC Mexico sold 523 vehicles and it has 8 distributors in the country: Mexico City, Cuautla, Querétaro, Guadalajara, Chihuahua, Metepec, Veracruz, Playa del Carmen, Hermosillo, Mexicali and in the following weeks in Tláhuac.
