Once a year, Guanajuato becomes a total chaos you don't want to miss. The streets of the historic downtown district are swarmed by people making a racket, symbolic buildings of the Independence era and ancient manors come back to life, and the most important auditoriums and concert halls are the meeting point of thousands of people from all over the world...and it's all because of one reason: art.
The International Cervantine Festival (or El Cervantino ) is an annual festival held in the city of Guanajuato, in central Mexico. Each fall, this historic city gathers different presentations from a wide range of disciplines, such as dance, music, theater, and cinematography. This year, the festival will take place from October 11 to the 29 , offering close to 180 performances and shows for its visitors.
The director of the festival, Marcela Diez, has confirmed this year's special guests will be France and the State of Mexico .
France will participate with more than 30 activities, opening with two unique presentations: Rocco – a choreography by the National Ballet of Marseille – and a rock concert by the group Dionysos .
The State of Mexico will offer concerts performed by their state Symphony Orchestra and by a children's choir singing in indigenous languages.
There will also be several open air events, such as the muscialization of Stanley Kubrick's work by the National Symphony Orchestra at the terrace of the Regional Museum of Guanajuato – one of the most important historic buildings in Mexico.
Several of the activities will be free to the general public, such as a Don Quixote play by the University's Theater Company.
