Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey
will be venues of the FIFA World Cup 2026 . They’ll start preparing to receive thousands of tourists who, in addition to the sporting event, will be able to enjoy the wide tourist offer of the country, highlighted the Ministry of Tourism (SECTUR) .
In a statement, the federal agency expressed that the World Cup venues were a small sample of what Mexico can offer in terms of tourism. Its richness and history give a wide variety of unique experiences in its multiple destinations.
He stressed that the color, magic, and surrealism of Mexico , attract thousands of tourists from all segments through several activities which include sun and beaches, romance, adventure, nature, medicine, wellness, LGBT , cruises, culture, gastronomy, luxury and high impact events such as the next FIFA World Cup 2026 .
For the third time, Mexico will open its doors to soccer fans from all over the world and it will be the first time that a World Cup is played with 48 teams , in a tournament that will consist of 80 matches .
He explained that 10 soccer matches will take place in Mexico , which will be distributed in Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey, the three host cities.
Mexico will make history, becoming the first country to organize three World Cups , after those made in 1970 and 1986 , which demonstrates FIFA's confidence in the country’s infrastructure, logistics, and quality of service to grant the maximum sports experience at an international level, commented the federal agency.
He said that, according to a study conducted by FIFA, host countries can anticipate profits of 14.3 billion dollars .
Chosen in 2015 by the New York Times as the best city to visit, Mexico City , with a total of 170 museums and 43 galleries , is the second city with more museums in the world, just below London, England .
For its part, Guadalajara is the second largest city in the country. Known as the land of tequila and mariachi, it is rich in history and traditions.
Meanwhile, Monterrey stands out for its mountainous landscapes such as Cerro de la Silla, Cerro de las Mitras, and La Sierra Madre , as well as its thermal springs, numerous museums, and historical monuments.
