has stated Mexico is among the top 5 countries whose users have used applications which improperly shared their personal data with Cambridge Analytica, reporting a total of 789,880 affected users in the country.
In a statement issued by Mike Schroepfer, Facebook's Chief Technology Officer, it is mentioned that the data of up to 87 million Facebook users could have been improperly shared with Cambridge Analytica, that is, it's possible 0.9% of them belong to people in Mexico.
Meanwhile, civil society association Artículo 12, through the program “SonTusDatos” (roughly, “It'sYourData”), has requested the National Institute for Transparency, Access to Information and Personal Data Protection (INAI) to investigate both, Facebook and the British Corporation Cambridge Analytica for their possible violation of the Federal Law on the Protection of Personal Data Held by Private Parties
Cédric Laurant, president of Artículo 12, said during an interview that “it would be important that the INAI performed its own investigation to determine whether Cambridge Analytica and Facebook have violated [Mexican] laws.”
