In 2017, berry exports surpassed tequila exports , according to José Palacios Jiménez , Secretary of Economic Development of Jalisco .
Juicy, rounded, brightly colored, sweet or sour, Mexican berries amounted at 23.5% of Jalisco's total exports while Tequila exports stood at 18% last year, Jacobo Palos Cabrera President of the Jalisco Agricultural Council announced.
The opening of air routes to Asia allowed an increase from USD$1,200 million in 2016 to USD$1,800 million in raspberry , blackberry , cranberry , and strawberry exports last year, since a greater amount of berries are now able to reach Asian and European countries.
It is expected that berry exports will increase 10% in the coming years.
While Tequila sales stood at USD$1,500 million with the commercialization o f 211 million liters .
In a press conference, Palacios Jiménez said that Jalisco managed to diversify its export destinations due to its commercial intelligence platform in which product information is registered, such as place of origin among other relevant data.

It should be noted that Jalisco managed to reduce the percentage of products exported to the United States, going from 83% in 2013 to 68% last year, by expanding the range of customers from other countries.
