In the framework of the world-famous doll Barbie’s 60th anniversary , Mattel launched a special series of dolls based on empowering female role models who have helped make the world a better place.
"We’re committed to highlighting empowering role models as a key part of the Dream Gap Project –our ongoing global initiative aimed at giving girls the resources and support they need to continue believing that they can be anything. By introducing girls to stories of women from all walks of life, they begin to see more opportunities for themselves," reads Barbie's official website.
For the toy’s 60th anniversary, Mattel commemorated 19 women from 18 countries with their “ Shero Dolls ” line, inspired by real and relevant women, including the Mexican mountaineer, writer, and lecturer Karla Wheelock .

Barbie has evolved over the years and this is not the first time that the American toymaker launches a doll inspired by a Mexican woman. In 2018, Mattel launched two commemorative dolls inspired by Frida Kahlo and the golfer Lorena Ochoa.
