A total of 198 U.S.-bound illegal immigrants from several nationalities were found inside two semi-trailers by agents of the Ministry of National Defense in the town of Oyama, Tamaulipas.
There were 80 minors among the migrants, who received from the Comprehensive Family Development System (DIF) of Tamaulipas medical attention, food, blankets, personal hygiene items, clothes, and more.
The organization informed through a statement that the aid offered to the National Institute of Immigration was provided in order to ensure the rights of minors were respected, through the Prosecutor's Office for the Protection of the Rights of Children and Adolescents.
“Jointly with the local government and the Immigration Institute, we provided food, clothes, personal hygiene items, and medical attention to the Central American minors traveling illegally to the United States,” the organization declared.
Unaccompanied minors
were taken into custody by the Comprehensive Family Development System, pursuant to the law and the corresponding migration procedures, after which the children will receive specialized attention through child protection services.
Three Mexican citizens were arrested by the Ministry of the Defense and Mexico's Office of the Attorney General (PGR) for charges related to migrant smuggling .
