This Tuesday, José Urquidy made his debut in the major leagues when the Houston Astros visited the Colorado Rockies in the Coors Field .
A few days ago, the 24-year-old pitcher from Mazatlán, Sinaloa , told us about his journey through the Center of High Performance of the Mexican Baseball League and his expectations when he was still on the verge of his debut in the Major League.
Three months in 2014 in the Mexican Baseball League Center of High Performance (CAR) (Academy of the Mexican Baseball League) marked the career of the pitcher from Mazatlán, who is one of the main prospects of the Astros.
“The truth is that it’s very nice and exciting to see all these scouts watching you, something that I remember and say ‘There’s where I signed’ (in the CAR ), I remember and I’m very proud of having been there,” expressed the right-hander.
"I remember those scouts that talked to me, and when I was given the chance to sign with a Major League team , it was something I always desired, playing professionally and in the United States ,” he added.
The baseball player from Sinaloa passed the program of development of the Monterrey Sultans in the Center of High Performance, after being scouted by Leo Figueroa .
Before his promotion to a Major League team, Urquidy had passed through the Rookie to the Triple-A league , and until yesterday was part of the rotation of the Round Rock Express team , main branch of the Astros .
With a 3-1 won and lost mark , and a percentage of earned runs of 2.89 in the 2019 Season of the Triple-A Pacific Coast League , Urquidy earned his promotion to the Major League.
The Houston Astros are one of the organizations with a constant presence in the National League of Prospects , which evaluates the best baseball talents in Mexico.
“(Houston) is a too big and complete organization, there’s a lot of staff , pitching coaches , lots of psychologists , they give you a lot of attention if you’re failing at something, they see it and try to correct you, it’s something important,” Uriquidy considered.
