The Mexican American boxer Andy Ruiz will have an opportunity to show that his victory over Anthony Joshua by knockout was not a coincidence. There will be a rematch on November or December this year, according to Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn .
The British fighter’s team announced that a rematch clause had been part of the contract for the first fight. Said clause was triggered on Tuesday after talks.
“After meetings with AJ, Rob Mc (Joshua’s trainer), and the management team in New York, we have today triggered the contracted rematch clause with Andy Ruiz Jr,” Hearn said on Twitter.
Though Hearn has expressed that he would like for the match to take place in England, the venue has not yet been confirmed. As champion of the world, Ruiz has the privilege to set the conditions for the rematch. The Mexican American athlete has said that he would like for the match to take place in Mexico, Los Angeles, or Las Vegas .
Ruiz became the first Mexican American heavyweight champion of the World Boxing Association , the World Boxing Organization , and the International Boxing Federation when he beat Anthony Joshua by knockout in the seventh round.
