Known for her eerie narrative works of the fantasy genre, Mexican writer Amparo Dávila will receive a tribute during the National Book Fair of Zacatecas 2018 (FENALIZ), which will take place from May 25 to June 3 at the Ciudadela del Arte (Art Citadel) Cultural Center of Zacatecas .
With the participation of 50 publishing houses and around 200 exhibitors, lecturers, writers, and moderators , the famous poetess and storyteller will be celebrated at the opening of the Fair, and although her attendance is yet to be confirmed, she will receive a decoration for her trajectory and there will be a reading of some of her short stories.
According to the event organizer, Xóchitl Marentes , assistant manager of the Education and Research center at the Zacatecas’ Institute of Culture , the programme will explore the territory of the Fantasy genre in accordance to the decoration given to Amparo Dávila.
Among the most important activities to be held at the FENALIZ will be the participation of Jorge Volpi , who will present his most recent text entitled “Una novela criminal” (A Criminal Novel), as well as the intervention of Jorge Juanes , philosopher and art critic, who will also be decorated at the end of his conference called “ The resistance of art, before and after the end of the world .”
Amparo Dávila is the author of award-winning books such as “Árboles petrificados” (Petrified Trees) , with which she won the Xavier Villaurrutia Award in 1977 . She is considered to be one of the most important Fantasy storytellers in Latin America, and one of the most read among young readers and writers.
