AMLO will divide Mexico into 265 sections to fight crime

As part of his strategy to combat insecurity and violence, Mexico’s President-elect Andrés Manuel López Obrador will divide the country into 265 regional sections which will be individually coordinated between the Federal Police, the Mexican Army, and the Navy .

Upon his arrival at the airport of Ciudad Victoria , the politician from Tabasco explained to the press that he would replicate what he had done as head of government in Mexico City by incorporating Federal elements as part of his plan to guarantee peace and tranquility in the country.

In turn, following a diagnose conducted by the transition team, the regional sections will be divided into three axes: Sections with low crime rates , such as Yucatán , where around 300 coordination elements will be made available for law enforcement; In regions where crime rates are higher but not critical, 450 elements will be appointed ; Finally, in regions where crime levels are highest , and felonies include homicide and kidnapping , there will be 600 security coordination elements .

“This plan will imply a thorough distribution of public forces to address the problem of insecurity by regions. We are going to divide the country into 265 regions,” he claimed.

López Obrador acknowledged that, unfortunately, more than half of said regions have critical crime rates

Furthermore, the President-elect said that the plan would imply cleaning up both municipal and state corporations, though he commented that both this and the training processes needed would be conducted in full cooperation with state governments.

“There is a limit to what the executive power can do, we need to negotiate with state governments,” he stressed.
