singer, composer, and accordionist Celso Piña was urgently admitted to hospital San Vicente in Monterrey, Mexico due to a heart attack .
On Wednesday afternoon , Mexican journalist Denisse Maerker reported that the musician of “Cumbia sobre el río” had passed away.

Celso Piña
,who was born on April 6th, 1953 in Monterrey, Nuevo León , was one of the most notable figures in Cumbia music, which is one of the most spread Latin American genres . He pioneered in mixing a tropical base with popular genres like Norteño, Sonidero, Ska, Reggae, Rap, Hip Hop, and R&B.
Throughout his career, Celso Piña, who was a self-taught accordionist and developed a unique style, won two Latin Grammy Awards for “Best Contemporary Tropical Album” and “Best New Artist From the North,” and also won an MTV Latino Award for “Best Alternative Artist.”
