Diabetes, hypertension, obesity, anxiety, sleep disorders, strokes, addiction to legal and illegal drugs, alopecia, and shingles are some of the diseases related to academic stress , according to Eduardo Calixto , head of neurobiology of the Ramón de la Fuente National Psychiatry Institute , who said that it is regrettable that stress triggers are so normalized nowadays.
Experts told EL UNIVERSAL that currently, stress triggers have normalized, which hinders medical attention needed by school children, adolescents, and adults.
“We could change these stories of young people committing suicide because their stress levels are so high that they can’t find a solution. We have a lot to learn regarding triggers, we are not aware and sometimes those who tolerate these situations are called cowards or crybabies,” said Calixto González .

“The brain perceives information of hormone change in daily activities; being exposed to episodes of academic stress generates obesity because students change their eating habits , they have anxiety and eat products with high-calorie content; this makes them start a diabetes process. Stress also affects sleep cycles, causes osteoporosis, and eases the apparition of immune diseases, ” he warned.

“Academic stress affects the learning process of students as well as their well.being. Studies have shown that students get stressed and don’t know how to control themselves when there are surprise exams when an exam will have a higher impact in the final grade, or due to too much homework.
