The Mexican government , through the Victim Attention Executive Commission (CEAV ), part of the Internal Affairs Ministry, will publicly acknowledge that they violated human rights during the 1968 student movement , especially in Tlatelolco , on October 2, 1968.
After 50 years and with the Tlatelolco's Cultural University Center as the stage, where the CEAV's director, Jaime Rochín , is expected to recognize the human rights violations in front of the victims, their families, and civic organizations' representatives.
According to social organizations, the government's participation in the students' movement will be analyzed during the forum, as well as other events where there were human rights violations, among them, the disappearance of 43 students from Ayotzinapa.
The CEAV organizes talks with the victims from the 1968 movement , with former leaders who are looking to receive a compensation from the federal government, but they also want the President to apologize for the human rights violations.
Last April, during an interview with EL UNIVERSAL, Jaime Rochín emphasized that one of the government's main debts is with the direct and indirect victims of the student demonstrations from 1968 .
“It's better late than never, and of the 50th anniversary of these events, we have to think about generating a clear acknowledgment of the human rights violations carried out by the government ”.
“It's very important that the victims are able to provide evidence, if they wish, that is, that they can intervene and get to read the work documents to generate an objective investigation about what really happened, not just the truth, but a memory that can point what are the consequences in the personal and psycho-social aspects”, he proposed in 2017.
“The purpose is to find a way to help them in the full reparation , because the victims want and demand, as part of their reparation, justice and truth ”, he insisted.
Last April, he informed that the CEAV is collaborating with the UNAM , the CNDH , the Nation's General Archive , and the INE .
