After a week of work, experts of the Institute of Forensic Science of Jalisco and officers of Zapopan’s Civil Protection have rescued 105 bags with human remains found inside an artesian aquifer located in La Primavera, Zapopan ; the works will continue for several days more.

Until now, it is unknown how many bodies could be in the bags, for Jalisco’s Attorney General has not ordered to open them since there are still more remains to rescue from the bottom of the aquifer.

The finding took place on September 3rd when officers of the National Guard and police officers of Jalisco responded to a report of foul smell at the end of Durazno street.

At their arrival, the officers found a hole in the perimeter fence through which vehicles can enter and after starting their search they located an artesian aquifer from where foul odors emanated.

That day, with the help of staff from Zapopan’s Civil Protection , they could rescue four bags with human remains. Due to the depth of the aquifer and the difficulty to maneuver inside it, they decided to bring heavy equipment to have better access.

Since then, 105 bags have been rescued , which, according to the coordinator of Jalisco’s Security cabinet, Macedonio Tamez Guajardo , contain dismembered bodies , further complicating the identification process .

Additionally, they informed that the works could continue for several days. Jalisco's Attorney General said it will inform about the findings after the end of each workday.
