120 years
ago took place the first Japanese migration to Latin America and Mexico was the country chosen to settle. On May 10, 1887 , the Enomoto Colony was created in Acacoyagua, a region in the state of Chiapas, and despite the adversities, the immigrants managed to live in the country. To commemorate that date, the Franz Mayer Museum will hold the " Matsuri: Japan Festival. "
The site located in the center of Mexico City will have multiple activities over the weekend. The Iroha exhibition. Dialogues in art . Japan-Mexico , Japanese gastronomy, sake, workshops, conferences, and music are part of the cultural program.
The inauguration was at 11 am with the presence of the president of the Japanese-Mexican Association, Nobutaka Wakui . At the end of the event, a demonstration of Budo , a Japanese martial art, was performed in the auditorium of the museum.
In regards to the musical activities, Jiuta Shamisen and Kristin Carmina Ayala Bendixen will perform in the same space from 15:30 to 16:30 hours.
Among Sunday 's activities are " A Thousand Years of Japanese Art " by artist Pavel Oi; music will be in charge of the recital " Kokiraku ", by Jorge Rodríguez, Mami Ebara and Miyuki Takahashi.

The Iroha exhibition. Dialogues in art . Japan-Mexico will be displayed until September 17 . It will gather more than 300 pieces that serve as testimony of the relationship between the two cultures, which have had contact since 1613 .

As part of the activities of Japan's embassy in Mexico, a retrospective of the filmmaker and writer Mikio Naruse will be screened from July 25 to August 7 . Professor Kiyoaki Okubo of the Yamagata University will be in charge of the inaugural conference on July 25 at 18:00 hours.
