The painting of Luca Giordano (1634-1705) titled The repentance of King David arrived from London, England, to be sold in Mexico, which will consolidate the country as a reference point in the international art market.
The painting, with size 64.5” x 81.4”, conveys the moment in which David, before the suffering of his people, is repentant and begs God for his forgiveness by means of a sacrifice. It will be auctioned by Morton Auctioneers on June 1.
It will be the Lot 67 of the antiques Sale 828, which will have a starting bid of MXN$400 thousand pesos and it is estimated to reach half million pesos.
According to information of the company, it will be the first time a Giordano is sold in Latin America.
Luca Giordano was a Neapolitan artist from the 17th century. He is known as one of the main artists of the Italian Baroque.
His paintings are part of important museum collections, such as the Royal Site of San Lorenzo de El Escorial and The Prado Museum in Spain; The Dallas Museum of Art and The Metropolitan Museum of New York in the United States; the Louvre Museum in France; or the National Gallery in London, among others.
