During the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum (APEC), Ministers of Commerce from Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Vietnam and Singapore, all members of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), had diverse meetings in which they determined that each member should instruct their teams to analyze mechanisms in order to operate the partnership.
The Mexican Ministry of Economy, Ildefonso Guajardo, said that the evaluations to reactivate the TPP should conclude before the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting, which will take place on November 10 and 11, in Da Nang, Vietnam.
Ildefonso Guajardo said a few weeks ago that Japan's proposal to reactivate the TPP will be analyzed with the remaining members, and he even considered the possibility of joining the TPP members to other treaties like the Latin American trade bloc Pacific Alliance.
In the APEC forum in Hanoi, Vietnam, it was agreed to work this year on deepening the regional economic integration; fortifying the competitiveness of micro, small and medium enterprises in the digital era; promoting sustainable, innovative and inclusive economic growth; as well as encouraging food safety and sustainable agriculture in response to the climate change.
The Ministers of Commerce assured that they will seek to reduce non-tariff barriers and fortify the region's connectivity.
