Vinculan a proceso a exgobernador de Baja California por caso Next Energy; enfrenta cargos por abuso y peculado
Laura Sánchez Ley, correspondent of EL UNIVERSAL, was beaten by police of the Mexican gendarmerie while covering the encampment of protesters outside PEMEX facilities in Tijuana, Baja California.
Around noon today, the journalist was reporting live, via Facebook, that authorities intended to remove protesters encamped on the site for several days, as they were blocking the supply plant; she also noted that there is no gasoline available in the whole of the state of Baja California.
Gendarmerie police lashed out against reporter Laura Sánchez, her husband and journalist for Political Animal media and Univisión, Luis Alonso Pérez and photojournalist for Frontera media, Jesús Bustamante.
The gendarmerie launched tear gas to both protesters and the twenty reporters that were covering the event.
As Laura Sánchez tried to record a detainee that was being subjected by the police in the floor, she was beaten in her chest and face by two female gendarmerie police who verbally abused her.
The gendarmerie police beat and rounded up several protesters as well as the three journalists, who were arrested despite being fully identified as members of the press. Eight agents beat Luis Alonso Pérez, who shows significant injury in one eye.
The whereabouts of journalist, Luis Alonso Pérez, and photojounalist, Jesús Bustamante, remain unknown, while the clash between protesters and the gendarmerie police continues.
