Mexico City's Mayor, Miguel Ángel Mancera, inaugurated the new pedestrian bridge that crosses over the Great Pyramid of Tenochtitlán, also known as the Templo Mayor, and connects Mexico City's Zócalo with several side streets for the first time in 26 years.
100,000 people are expected to cross the bridge on a daily basis, which will be open from 8 am to 8 pm.
José Mariano Leyva, the general director of the Historical Downtown Trust that funds these types of projects in the neighborhood confirmed that the local Mexico City government invested 13 million pesos, around 630,000 dollars, in the project.
Mariano Leyva also said during a pre-inauguration inspection of the bridge that everyone will be able to cross the bridge from one street to another for the first time in decades, and will be able to do so with impressive views of the pyramid's ruins.
