Juan Pedro, 32, weighs 1,100 pounds (500 kilos) and will lose about 900 pounds (410-420 kilos) in 18 months.
After six years in bed, he was removed from his home in the state of Aguascalientes by medical personnel and translated to a hospital in Zapopan, Jalisco for weight-loss treatment.
At age 17, weighing 200 kilos (440 pounds), Juan Pedro had an accident that restricted his movement causing him to gain more weight.
According to specialist surgeon Dr José Antonio Castañeda Cruz, Juan Pedro will remain in Zapopan receiving the treatment to lose 30 or 40 kilos (66-88 pounds) in six months and then undergo a surgery to achieve his ideal weight in a year and a half.
"This is the first step of a long way to go," said Juan Pedro before being admitted to the hospital.
Mexican Manuel Uribe was once considered the world's heaviest man, before he died in 2014 at age 48.
Uribe's peak weight of 1,230 pounds (560 kilograms) was certified in 2006 as a Guinness World Record.
