After a powerful 7.8 earthquake hit the whole of the Oceania country early today, president Enrique Peña Nieto expressed his sympathy by posting a message in his twitter account:
“Mexicans express their solidarity with New Zealanders and their government, after the strong earthquake that hit New Zealand earlier this Sunday”.
The latest earthquake in New Zealand is reported to be the strongest since February 2011, when a 6.3 earthquake caused 185 victims and generalized property damage.
Today’s earthquake had its epicenter 91km from Christchurch and was followed by a 2-meter-high tsunami in the South Island region.
The Mexican government informed that they will provide aid to all Mexicans that might have been affected by the recent events, for this, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has made a 24hour hotline available for fellow nationals in New Zealand who might need assistance:
