Federal police agents found 122 Central American migrants traveling in overcrowded conditions and showing signs of asphyxia. Three people were arrested in connect with the discovery.
69 of the migrants were from El Salvador, 50 from Guatemala and three from Honduras, and all 122 were crammed into three trucks that were en route to the US-Mexican border.
The discovery was made after federal police officers saw two trailers and one large freight van driving recklessly and over the speed limit.
They then stopped the vehicles and upon inspecting the units, they found the 122 Central American traveling in overcrowded conditions and showing signs of asphyxia.
The migrants were taken to the federal police headquarters in Ciudad Mante, where they received medical attention, food and water.
Since all of the migrants were in the country illegally, they were taken to the National Migration Institute to receive consular assistance to be subsequently returned to their countries of origin.
The Attorney General is investigating the matter and the three people who were arrested will be tried in a court of law.
