American brand Converse partnered with artists from Pinotepa de Don Luis Oaxaca, Oaxaca, twelve years ago, to create unique hand-painted sneakers influenced by Mixtec imagery.
Artists from the United Mixtec Engravers Association have combined imagination and Mixtec imagery of flora and fauna in a collection called “Pintando Pasos” or Painting Steps, to preserve and revalue the Mixtec legacy since 2004.
Each pair shows images of local Mixtec folklore, comes in a loom-made backpack and is signed by the artist in charge of the design, these can be purchased for US$40 for babies, US$52 for children and US$158 for adults.
These unique designs, along with embroided denim jackets and caps, can be found in Fusion Bazaar in Mexico City until Sunday 30.
