President Enrique Peña Nieto regretted how often “the cart is put before the horse” in the process to bring forward the National Education Reform rather than on the benefits entailed in this structural change for the country.
During his participation in the 25th Ibero-American Summit, in Cartagena de Indias, which brought together King Philip VI of Spain, as well as presidents from Chile, Colombia, Peru and Portugal, president Peña recognized that the Mexican Education Reform has not come without challenges and national resistance: “The Education Reform will come through. I trust that this reform will equip us to become a well prepared and more knowledgeable nation of professionals in future generations”, he noted during the panel: “Youth, Education and Entrepreneurship”.
The Mexican president emphasized that the consolidation of structural reforms is the path for future generations of Mexicans to have a promising future of personal and professional fulfillment in the current demanding and global labor market: “we want to ensure that the youth will provide added value and thus have access to well paying jobs”, he concluded.
