Five people were murdered on Monday in two separate shootings in the San Antonio Lalana indigenous community, which is located within the San Pablo de Coatlán municipality.
According to Oaxaca State Police, it was the head of Coatlán's local finance department, Ciro Martínez, who called in for police assistance. At around 8:30 am on Monday, 48-year-old Aristeo Cruz Baños was murdered.
According to the victim's wife, Antonia Jiménez García, four people driving a Nissan Trusuru who claimed to be employees of the company ICA, fired gunshots into their home's patio and immediately fled the scene.
Members of the community launched a search for the assailants.
Then, at approximately 4:00 pm, the Oaxaca State Police reported to have found four unidentified lifeless bodies on a road that leads into Comitlán, which presumably belong to those responsible earlier in the day in the death of Cruz Baños.
The State Attorney General is investigating the five murders that took place in Coatlán, located approximately 60 miles south of the state's capital.
