With an appeal to the Latino community to vote in the upcoming presidential elections of the U.S. next November 8 and a thrilling tribute to late Mexican singer-songwriter Juan Gabriel, Maná gave a show in a crowded Inglewood Forum, the same venue where “El Divo de Juárez performed for the last time.
“Se me olvidó otra vez”, was the only hit that the band played for Juan Gabriel during his lifetime. Lead singer Fher said before performing the theme: “Some days ago, this venue received an extraordinary composer, may he rest in peace.”
For nearly three hours, the Mexican pop rock band offered a powerful concert, full of Latin pride as well as references to the band’s contribution to the U.S. “We are very proud to be able to perform in the same venue the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney and Led Zeppelin did, now Inglewood receives four Mexican macho men”, said Fher.
Maná displayed a huge sign which covered the stage with an image showing Mexico before the annexation of territories by the U.S.; in the edges of the current border you could read messages like “hate”, racism” and “xenophobia” which Maná called for tearing down in order to show the strength of the Latino community.
“There are more than 50 million Latino in this country and that is why we urge you to vote and rescue the Latino community; let’s show the strenght we have in this country. Latino people, let’s write the history of this country so that we may be respected. We do not believe in violence, let’s vote and fight for our rights and our future instead“, Fher added.
