After being forced out of the temporary national encampment in Mexico City and the permanent encampment in Chiapas, Mexico, the CNTE teachers union's blockades and massive protests have come to an end for the time being. In their most recent meeting, union leaders agreed to focus their efforts on presenting an initiative that abolishes Mexico's controversial education reform.
“We will never stop fighting and the government forcing us out of our encampments will not deter us. As of today and through December 2016, a new stage in our fight begins. In October, we will collect the petition signatures needed to deliver this initiative to Congress by November. Under no circumstances are we renouncing political action, and we will therefore stick to a planned timetable from now until December,” said the union leaders.
