The video of an official from the government of Sonora hitting and semi stripping a young woman on the street went viral on social networks with the hashtag #LadySagarpha.
The official was identified as Mónica López, who worked as Technical Coordinator of the state's Ministry of Agriculture.
The incident happened over the weekend on the corner of Reforma and Navarrete in Hermosillo.
In a statement, the state government condemned the attitude of the official and said that while her situation is reviewed she will not work in an area in which she has to deal with citizens.
“No situation, regardless of how serious it is, should or can be solved through physical aggression," the Ministry added in the statement.
