With the closing of the polling stations in Baja California, the regional elections in 13 states of Mexico ended officially and now all there is to do is to wait for the results of a process that paves the way to the presidential elections of 2018.
The stations opened at 8:00 a.m. local time in Aguascalientes, Durango, Hidalgo, Oaxaca, Puebla, Quintana Roo, Tamaulipas, Tlaxcala, Veracruz, Chihuahua, Sinaloa, Baja California and Zacatecas.
According to the National Elections Institute, in a report titled "Electoral Statistics 2016," a total of 1,819 posts were to be renewed in the voting process.
Out of that total, 12 were governor seats, with 388 local lawmaking positions and 966 mayor seats.
The state with more posts at stake is Oaxaca, with 613 including the governor job, 42 local lawmakers and 570 mayor seats.
A total of 29,923,473 voters were registered for the elections.
In Mexico City, the voters elected the members of the Constitutional Assembly, which will be in charge of the regional constitution.
