Jorge Alberto Contreras, legal director of the human rights department of the government of Zapopan, was fired over homophobic comments posted on Facebook.
“Those gays received their punishment thank God!,” Contreras wrote in a comment to a story about Pope Francis decrying Orlando massacre.
His comment was reported to mayor Pablo Lemus, who proceeded to fire him.
“In Zapopan we will not tolerate discrimination much less in connection to a tragedy as the one that happened in Orlando,” Lemus wrote on Facebook.
