The office of the Attorney General of the State of Mexico is investigating whether state police officers are participating in an alleged case of torture documented on a video which has caused outrage on social networks.
The incident goes as far as an officer asphyxiating an alleged suspect with a plastic bag.
The video was leaked in the Mexico Leaks platform and supposedly presents officers from the Ministerial Police in the exercise of torture during interrogations.
The State Attorney's office confirmed an investigation on the case and that the individual subjected to torture has been identified. The incident allegedly happened in April 2014, during investigations of a case of homicide.
The individual, who is currently awaiting trial, was allegedly involved in the murder of Gustavo Meléndez Castillo and Juan Efraín Retana Correa, as well as injuries to another individual on November 21, 2013.
