The attorney of Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán filed a new injunction (amparo) in Chihuahua that would stop any attempt to extradite the drug lord to the United States immediately.
The amparo, admitted by the 6th. District Court of Chihuahua, argues that the drug lord was isolated during his transfer from the federal maximum security prison of El Altiplano, in the State of Mexico, to the Federal Social Rehabilitation Center (Cefereso) No. 9 of Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua.
The injunction would allow his lawyers to meet with the drug lord in person at the prison. Guzmán was transfered to Ciudad Juárez after an unexpected power outage at El Altiplano.
The request was filed on May 7.
