A year after she moved to the United States, Mexican actress Paola Núñez will participate in a TV series set in Texas, a state where immigrants are not well received and Republican hopeful Donald Trump has made racism grow.
The actress will portray María García, a member of the last Mexican family in the state, after its independence from Mexico.
"The Son" is based on a book by Philipp Meyer, who has said that it portrays the creation of the U.S. in violence and blood since the middle of the XIX century.
"The Son" will be a multi-generational TV series.
"There's something really interesting going on here. Amazingly, there are people supporting him (Trump), and that makes us see that racism is skin deep. It hasn't ended and still exists," expressed Núñez in a telephone interview.
She added that she is not afraid, at least not as much as she was when she left Mexico and went to have auditions in English.
"The Son," produced by Sonar Entertainment and AMC Studios, will be premiered in 2017.
