Zerón says that he will not resign

Tomás Zerón, director of the Criminal Investigation Agency rejected any possibilities of leaving office after the accusations from the Interdisciplinary Group of Independent Experts (GIEI) about the investigation conducted on October, 28, 2014 in the San Juan River in Cocula.

The investigation focused on the disappearance of the 43 teachers in training from Ayotzinapa in Iguala on September 26 that same year.

When questioned by Ciro Gómez Leyva on whether he will submit his resignation, Zerón replied: "No. Now, more than ever I am committed to acting on the scope of the responsibility of what I do and with my country".

He explained that at no time he had violated the due process on the case of witness Agustín García Reyes, member of a criminal gang with whom he went to check on the river area in search of clues on the disappearance of the students.

Zerón said that García Reyes, known as "El Chereje," did not request the presence of a lawyer "by his own free will" and he also offered to take the experts to the river area, where the criminals allegedly threw a series of bags with burnt human remains.

It should be pointed out that the San Juan River was the area where the authorities found the remains of Alexander Mora, so far the only set of remains which has been identified.

According to the GIEI, Zerón misrepresents the facts when he said that the team from the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights altered the video of the investigation.
