A group of some 5,000 demonstrators arrived at the monument of the Angel of the Independence, in central Mexico City, in order to protest against the growing violence against women in the municipality of Ecatepec, in the neighboring State of Mexico.
The march began at 10:00 a.m. this morning in Ecatepec, with protesters converging also from different areas of Mexico City and the rest of the country.
The violence in Ecatepec has turned the municipality north of Mexico City as the one with the highest number of crimes against women in the whole country.

Under the hashtag #VivasNosQueremos (we want ourselves alive), the organizers of the protest said that according to the National Institute of Statistics, Geography, and Information seven women are killed every day in Mexico and only a small percentage of the cases is solved.
