Women from the municipality of Ecatepec, in the State of Mexico, as well as different areas of Mexico City and the rest of the country, held a protest at the monument known as the Angel of Independence, in demand of an end to gender violence.
The women marched from Ecatepec, north of Mexico City, starting 10:00 a.m., walking over the Mexico-Puebla highway towards the city, to call for an end to the increasing levels of violence against women in Ecatepec, currently considered the most violent municipality in the country.
Parallel protests were held in 30 states of Mexico, to protest against the increase in gender violence and the constant criminalization of victims, as well as a suitable protocol to deal with these cases.
Under the hashtag #VivasNosQueremos, the organizers pointed out that according to the National Institute of Statistics, Geography, and Information, seven women are killed every day in the country in gender-based acts of violence and that the number of cases solved is extremely low.
