Enrique Galindo Ceballos, General Commissioner of Mexico's Federal Police, said three elements were suspended after a femele police officer is seen torturing a woman in a video recorded in Ajuchitlán del Progreso, Guerrero.
Ceballos said that the institution will not allow such violations and added that such practices do not represent the actions of the Federal Police.
In the presence of Renato Sales Heredia, National Security commissioner, Ceballos explained that in addition to the woman, two police officers who witnessed the attack were also suspended.
Yesterday Democratic hopeful Hillary Clinton called the government of Mexico to set "higher standards" for its military and police. "I do not think violating the human rights of the people is the best way to defeat criminal groups," Clinton said in an interview with Univision.
Today Mexico's Foreign Minister Claudia Ruiz Massieu said that the government is working to address the challenges we face, including human rights, while Renato Sales, National Security Commissioner, also apologized for the incident and said that measures will be taken so that such abuses are not committed again.
