Leakage at Cutzamala System floods houses in Toluca

A leakage at the Cutzamala System affected about 100 people, including 35 children, of San Carlos Autopan and San Cayetano Morelos, who had to be evacuated after their houses flooded. The government of Toluca opened two shelters in Brazo de Iturbide, San Carlos Autopan, for the victims.

The rupture of a line of Cutzamala System released about 2.5 cubic meters of drinking water per second.

While the leakage is repaired, the supply of drinking water to the Valley of Mexico will be reduced from 6.3 cubic meters per second to 3.7, the Water Commission of the State of Mexico (CAEM) said.

The reduction will affect the municipalities of Atizapán de Zaragoza, Coacalco, Cuautitlán Izcalli, Ecatepec, Huixquilucan, Lerma, Naucalpan, Nezahualcóyotl, Nicolás Romero, Tecámac, Tlalnepantla, Tultitlán and Toluca.

Repairs will take 48 hours and the supply of drinking water will be fully restored by Wednesday.
