Thousands of people marched today in demand of the release of former mayor Jorge Antonio Aguilar Lucas, arrested last Friday for the murder of a local alderman.
Men and women dressed in white marched from the outskirts of Comitán to midtown, demanding justice for the killing of Alain Anzueto Escobar, from the Mexican Green Party (PVEM).
They also called for the release of Aguilar, who they say was arrested for the discovery of pantries to be distributed last July 19 in order to influence voters to favor the PVEM.
Aguilar Lucas is in the state prison of El Amate, accused of kidnapping Luis Moreno Salas, which supposedly occurred after the discovery of the pantries.
No incidents have been reported during the protest.
