More than a thousand people took on Central Park to march against the "rhetoric of the division" used by magnate Donald Trump in his campaign for the Republican presidential nomination.
Surrounded by the police, the demonstrators spoke against Trump's "hate speech" and his "extremist" plans.
Banners with phrases such as "No to racism. No to fascism. No to Trump" were shown during the march that ended in front of Trump Tower, over Fifth Avenue.
The police used tear gas when some demonstrators broke a barrier and at least one of them was arrested, according to CNN.
The protest held in New York coincided with another held in Phoenix, Arizona, where dozens of demonstrators blocked a road leading to a Trump rally.
